Case Study: B/E Aerospace CAD Migration:
The challenge for B/E Aerospace was to migrate over 100,000 legacy 2D CAD drawings from Medusa, I-deas and Personal Designer files from three sites - two in the USA and one in the UK - into new Unigraphics and Iman systems
B/E Aerospace Seating Products Group are the worlds leading manufacturer of commercial aircraft seating with an installed base of more than 1 million seats in service. Autoweb Ltd helped them save time and money converting and migrating 100,000+ legacy CAD files
Out with the Old, In with the New!
John Whiting, Director of Technology at B/E Aerospace, had to complete this task for two reasons:
- Firstly, some of the legacy CAD systems were not Y2K compliant,
- Secondly B/E Aerospace made the strategic choice to use Unigraphics across ALL of their worldwide sites
Autoweb Ltd CAD Services:
We were selected to provide the up front advice on how to achieve this objective and also to provide the legacy CAD data migration services. John contacted Autoweb to translate the legacy 2D data into Unigraphics and also CGM files.
John said, 'Adding the CGM's has made a significant improvement to our business by allowing users (both in engineering and downstream) to rapidly access legacy drawings with iMAN-Web and ProductVision rather than calling up the full UG part in UG or going to the drawing library for a paper copy.'
'I have used four translation companies over the last five years. Autoweb is by far the easiest and most successful to work with. In particular, we enjoyed the flexibility of doing some of the work at Autoweb's offices and some at ours. Without the 'can do' attitude of Autoweb's staff, B/E would have been unable to do the work in house with their existing staff - in terms of both the R&D setup and the number crunching elements of the project.'
